Archive * No. 009: Saltbox Style
This issue features salt box style home interiors, vintage fishing lures, Big Ship Salvage store, and a rosemary cornbread recipe.
This week we are traveling to New York with some friends to stay at the family beach house. Growing up, I spent a lot of time back east between Pennsylvania, Long Island and Martha’s Vineyard. I have so much love for the East Coast and the old-school beach houses I grew up visiting. In honor of those vibes and in anticipation of our trip, I’m sharing some beach house design inspo :) and will share next week some inspiration gathered on our trip!
I’m coining this salt box style. It’s a mix of many coastal vibes, centered around comfort, age, and nautical influences.
EBAY OBSESSIONS
✦ Vintage Ice Fishing Lures
I have a collection of smaller fishing lures, but if you want something colorful for display or to remind you of the coast, the bigger ice fishing lures/decoys are great pieces to find and collect. The patterns you can find on them are always so interesting and creative, and the pieces themselves almost always handmade. Idk, it’s not that deep, but I think they are super cool and fun to look at.

SOURCE MATERIAL
✦ Big Ship Salvage
I discovered this store through a designer whose work I follow, Christina Salway. Big Ship Salvage sources boat scraps from shipyards and restores pieces for home use. Their home items aren’t just sustainable but also have a beautiful patina from years out at sea - heavy duty and made to withstand the elements. I want to replace some of our exterior lights with a pair from them one day.
HOUSE SPECIALS
✦ Garden Cornbread and Oven Roasted Ribs
Over Memorial Day weekend we hosted a BBQ dinner party at our house. I set the table outside in the yard and it was so cozy to eat all together in the garden. For dinner we made ribs and cornbread. If you want my ribs recipe, I used this one from AmazingRibs.com and slow roasted them in the oven for several hours. I love doing them in the oven because it makes it really easy to entertain and pull out dinner when it’s ready!
Sharing my cornbread recipe below - I love homemade cornbread and it’s so easy to whip up. I spruce up a simple recipe with fresh herbs, adding rosemary and thyme to give it a savory factor that elevates it just a tad. I also highly recommend topping it with local honey. Enjoy!

NOTES TO SELF
On theme for today’s inspirational note, I am sharing a lil art piece we have hanging in our kitchen. It’s a reminder that we can't always control what happens to us, but we can control how we respond. We are steering our ship - our mindset, choices, and determination shape our direction in life.
“Ships sale east, and ship sales west,
While the selfsame breezes blow.
It’s the set of the sails
And not the gales
That determine the way they go.
Like the winds of the seas are the ways of fate,
As we journey along through life:
It’s the set of a soul
That determines the goal,
And not the calm nor strife. ”
This read was a perfect fit for that early summer vibe we’re all feeling right now! Loved the nautical touches and I’m gonna have to try that delicious looking cornbread. 🤩🙏💕
The dinner party vibes look immaculate!
